Completion of Vehicle Inspection Does Not Mean Payment of Vehicle License Tax

Some vehicle owners complain that they have their vehicles regularly inspected and the motor vehicle office and its authorized inspection companies have never informed them of any unpaid vehicle license tax but they were seized on public roads and penalized by a fine equal to one time the amount of vehicle license tax owed. Local Tax Bureau of Taichung City Government explains that the existing Vehicle License Tax Act does not prohibit a vehicle without paying its license tax from regular inspection. Thus, the completion of periodic inspection does not mean that vehicle license tax has been paid.In accordance with Paragraph 1, Article 28 of Vehicle License Tax Act, if a vehicle with unpaid tax is found to be driven on public roads or rivers, the tax collection authority should order its owner or user to pay the tax due plus a fine equal to one time the amount of tax owed. Local Tax Bureau urges vehicle owners to make sure that vehicle license tax is paid when conducting any periodic vehicle inspection, so that they will not be seized and fined when using public roads.
