Taichung City Taxpayer's Ombudsperson Safeguards Taxpayer's Rights

(Taichung News) To protect taxpayers' rights, achieve fair taxation, and implement due process of law, the Taichung City Local Tax Bureau (TCLTB) has chosen 13 senior colleagues who are familiar with laws and possess abundant practical to serve as taxpayers' ombudsperson (hereinafter referred to as ombudsperson) to assist the public with communication and coordination of tax disputes, appeals or representations, and provide administrative remedy consultation and assistance, as well as vigorously uphold the people's tax rights. TCLTB explains that the city has 29 administrative districts, and eight branches are responsible for the comprehensive management of local tax collection services.
TCLTB originally had two ombudspersons (including the chief ombudsperson) in the main bureau and one in each of the seven branches, including Wenxin, Fengyuan, Datun, Shalu, Dongshan, Minquan, and Dazhi. To look after residents in remote townships, enhance the promotion of the ombudsperson system, and protect taxpayers' administrative remedy rights, four ombudspersons will be added to the Dongshi Branch and the main bureau in 2024 to offer taxpayers all-round protection.
To help the public take advantage of the ombudsperson system, besides providing various application channels such as written, telephone, fax, email, and Internet, the service locations have also been extended by installing video conferencing equipment in district offices, household registration offices, and village offices in remote regions including Lishan, Tianlun, and Pingdeng Village in Heping District, thereby creating a cross-agency service network to engage in video conferences with ombudspersons. In response to the popularization of mobile devices and the increase in the Internet penetration rate, TCLTB's website not only provides online ombudsperson application services but also has a dedicated video conferencing contact to offer professional, detailed, and considerate services.
TCLTB comments that taxpayers who wish to obtain more information on taxpayer protection and ombudsperson contact details may browse or submit their applications on the "Taxpayers' Rights Protection Section" on the bureau's website (http://www.tax.taichung.gov.tw). Alternatively, call TCLTB's toll-free number 0800-000321 or (04)2258-5000#1 for the telephone customer service center, and our staff will be glad to assist you.
