(Taichung) Climate change stands as one of the most pressing environmental issue today, and its adverse effects extend to people's daily lives and their physical and mental well-being. In order to reduce mobile pollution sources and maintain sustainable development of the environment, Taichung City has exempted electric vehicles from the license tax by the end of 2025, as to reduce air pollution through net-zero carbon emissions and protect public health.

The Local Tax Bureau of Taichung City Government stated that citizens are encouraged to switch to electric cars and motorcycles for green energy transportation, energy conservation and carbon reduction, and to accomplish United Nations' "SDG13 Climate Action" goals for sustainable development. The incentives not only encompass a waiver license tax but also extend to tax benefits, including exemptions from fuel tax and commodity tax. The bureau calls on the public to use more environmentally friendly and low-polluting vehicles, which not only is tax-free but also maintains air quality.

The Tax Bureau pointed out that those who purchase electrically powered vehicles and register their vehicles in Taichung is entitled for free license tax up to the end of 2025 without the need to submit any application, since the tax exemption for electric vehicles is provided in the name of energy conservation and carbon reduction and as an effort to build a clean home and realize the goal of sustainable development.
