Overdue tax bills can also be paid via mobile payment!

People typically feel anxious when their tax bills are overdue. Recently, in Taichung City, there was a situation where a woman, nearing the end of the workday, hurriedly approached the counter at the Local Tax Bureau. She explained, “I missed the deadline for paying my land value tax bill, the banks have closed, and the convenience stores don’t have such payment service. Can I settle it here?” The tax bureau staff quickly guided her to scan the QR code on the overdue tax bill with her phone, enabling her to conveniently make the payment via mobile. Upon leaving, she remarked, “Mobile payment is really convenient!”
Director Shen Cheng-an of the Local Tax Bureau noted that if the bill is overdue, a belated surcharge will also be levied apart from settling the basic tax. Traditionally, taxpayers had to visit financial institutions that accept tax payments. However, mobile payment methods have become more common in recent years. To enhance the convenience of tax payment services, the online tax payment platform (https://paytax.nat.gov.tw) now includes an automatic belated surcharge calculation feature. This enables taxpayers to conveniently clear their overdue local tax bills online without being constrained by the operating hours of financial institutions.
Director Shen also noted that settling overdue tax bills online is as simple as three easy steps: First, open your mobile scanner app. Next, scan the QR Code on the bill for tax payment. Lastly, select either a chip debit card, credit card, or current (savings) account for payment. There is no need to go outside; with just a few taps, paying overdue tax bills online is a breeze!
The Land Tax Bureau advises taxpayers that in addition to traditional payment methods at financial institutions, convenience stores, and ATMs, taxes can also be settled electronically through options like scheduled deductions, phone payments, online banking, or mobile payment. Late payments will result in a belated surcharge, so it's important to pay before the due date to avoid financial losses. Currently, only overdue house tax, land value tax, and vehicle license tax (except for cases that consolidate multiple bills into one) can be settled through the online tax payment platform within 30 days after the payment deadline.
If you have any further questions, feel free to call the bureau's toll-free service hotline at 0800-000321 or 22585000 ext. 1 to connect to the A++ Station, where dedicated personnel will be available to help.
