(Taichung City) Citizens in Taichung have received emails with the message “The payment has been deducted twice due to abnormal system operation. Please click the link immediately to apply for a tax refund and to receive more information” recently. The Local Tax Bureau of Taichung City Government says that these are scam emails and warns the public not to be fooled.
The Bureau explains that tax refund for double payment or overpayment will be handled by the Bureau proactively and that the Bureau will not send any tax refund link to anyone. Any tax refund related matters or counseling for direct deposit or transfer services will be sent to the taxpayer in writing as an official letter or counseling letter. The Bureau will not send any notification to taxpayers by email.
