（Taichung）No hurries for Taichung citizens! The death of a loved one is a sad occasion and many people still need to deal with issues related to inheritance tax. Starting from September 1st, two trial services of tax arrears and "online verification of inheritance and registration" began by connecting information of the National Taxation Bureau, the Taichung City Tax Bureau and the Land Office via online transmission of sample documents. Taichung citizens only need to complete the inheritance process by going to the Land Office for claiming inheritance and registering property transfers.

Director General of the Taichung City Tax Bureau, Shen Cheng-An, said before registering estate inheritance at the counter of the Land Office, an heir needs to file the inheritance tax with the National Tax Bureau and obtain full tax payment proof (the Estate Tax Free Certificate) to verify that land value tax and the house tax have been completely paid. Since September 1st, Taichung citizens can choose to go to a service counter or use the eTax filing system of the Ministry of Finance to file the inheritance tax with the National Tax Bureau and then relevant estate filing information will be automatically transmitted to the Tax Bureau for online verification conducted by the designated personnel. If any local tax debt is found, the results and tax payments or exemption documents shall be submitted together via an email to the Land Office for direct inheritance registration.

The Bureau explained that if any result of tax arrears is shown in the inquiry result, the system cannot directly export information of full tax payment and the applicant shall go to the counter at the Land Office to conduct further inquiry before proceeding with the registration process. The applicant needs to go to the Taichung City Tax Bureau to obtain tax payment (exemption) documents. Applicants can use their natural person voucher, National Health Insurance (NHI) card, mobile verification document or National ID Card number plus the document code to log in the "Local Filing System on the Tax Website-Online Search for Tax Debts of Local Taxes" to verify the complete tax payment before registering at the Land Office.

The Taichung City Tax Bureau said in addition to estate transfer cancellation, estate transfer, property transfer, estate gift and transfer services can all be proceeded at the Land Office with full gift and inheritance tax payment documents after making full tax payments at the National Tax Bureau. Electronic gift tax-related documents will be transmitted to the Land Office for online inquiry of the staff. Applicants can now save travelling time to enjoy the convenient services.
