No Hurry for Certificate Replacement; Automated Extension of License Plate Tax Payment Exemption for the Disabled in Taichung City until the End of October

To respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Taichung City especially automatically extended the tax payment exemption of license plates of vehicles owned by the disabled from the original interval between April 1st and August 31st to October 31st. Without any requirements of application for automated extension, more than 3,000 citizens will be benefited.
According to the Director General of the Local Tax Bureau of Taichung City Government, Shen Cheng-An, vehicles operated by the disabled can be exempted from the license plate tax within the effective time and if no reassessment is made after the expiring date, the eligibility for license plate tax exemption will be cancelled and taxes will be imposed from the next day after expiration.
Director General Shen further explained that in order to reduce infection risks and adhere to the central pandemic prevention and control measures, the disabled are not requested to go to hospitals for reassessment during the pandemic and therefore, by working with the Social Affairs Bureau, the eligibility certificates for the disabled are extended and at the same time, re-assessment for tax exemption of license plates will be extended to October 31st. The disabled do not need to worry about the failure to apply in time that causes the interruption of tax exemption.
The Local Tax Bureau reminded that for the disabled the re-assessment shall be completed before October 31st for the eligibility of exemption of the license plate tax.
For any questions regarding the license plate tax, please call the toll free service line of the Bureau at 0800-000321 or call to 22585000 and press 1 for Customer Services Center and talk to the designated staff.
