Recently, Typhoon Matmo hit Taiwan and caused loss of life and property in many places. To assist victims reduce tax burden, Local Tax Bureau of Taichung City Government will take the initiative to help affected taxpayers apply for tax relief.

Local Tax Bureau reminds any taxpayer to apply for disaster waivers, if he or she has suffered from the following losses.
1. House Tax:
A taxpayer is required to apply to the competent local tax office for house tax relief within 30 days after a disaster affects his or her house. If the house is damaged for 50% or above and must be repaired before re-use, the house tax can be exempted. If the damaged area accounts for less than 50% but over 30%, the house tax can be halved.
2. Land value tax:
Any land that is technically impossible to use due to landslides, subsidence, erosion, lands and pressure and other environmental restriction scan be exempted from land value tax . Owner or dian-holder of the affected land should apply to the competent local tax office for a waiver for land value tax 40 days before the land value tax is levied on September 22, 2014.
3. Vehicle license tax:
If an automobile or a motorcycle (151cc or more) isdamaged bya disaster to an unusable degree or in need of repair before it can be re-used, its owner is required to report its being scrapped to the supervision unit within one month after the occurrence of the disaster and then present the document issued by the supervision units to the competent tax authority for refund of vehicle license tax that has been paid since the date of the disaster.
4. Entertainment tax:
A collecting agent of entertainment tax is required to file an application within 30 days from the date of occurrence of a disaster. Based on the survey results, the entertainment tax shall be levied on the actual number of business days.
