Residential Property Tax Rates Not Related to Household Registration

The applicable residential property tax rates are not related to the household registration but the actual usage of a house, said the Local Tax Bureau of Taichung City Government.

There are three kinds of housing tax rates, including those for home use (1.2%), business use (3%), and non-residential& non-business use (2%), said the Local Tax Bureau. The applicable tax rates are imposed according to the usage of a house. If a house is for home use, its residents (house owners or not) can always apply for home-use tax rate (1.2%). It is not necessary that the residents register their household on the house. In other words, this is different from the application for preferential land value tax rate for self-residential house. In the latter case, an applicant must have his/her household registration in the house and the house must not be rented and/or for business use.

Local Tax Bureau reminds taxpayers to inspect their House Tax bills to check whether the applicable tax rate is correct. If the actual usage of a house has changed but a higher tax rate is still levied, please submit an application to the branch of Local Tax Bureau in your jurisdiction to save some money. If you have any questions, please call 0800-086969 (toll-free) or 04-22585000 ext. 1 for the call center. We at the Local Tax Bureau are always happy to answer your questions.
