Why is the Land Value Tax Higher than Last Year ?

The local tax office of the Taichung City Government has indicated that according to articles 14 and 18 of The Equalization of Land Rights Act, the land value shall be reassessed once every three years after its initial assessment or reassessment. Land value tax shall be levied according to progressive rates. The initial point at which the progressive rates are applied shall be the average value of seven acres of land, excluding the land for industrial, mining and agricultural uses, as well as the land exempted from tax in the respective SpecialMunicipality or County / City. This is the basis for the levy of land value tax over regular land.
Since the land value shall be reassessed once every three years, the reassessed land value has been applied in 2013. Following the urban development, the published land values in TaichungCity are generally raised and therefore some people may feel that the land value tax has also been raised. Taichung is not a particular case, the land value reassessment has been followed for years and applied nationwide.
The way to save tax is that those who are eligible for privileged tax rate applicable to residential land may file application to local tax office before September 22, 2013 and the tax rate will be applied next year. The applicants who apply after the deadline need to wait for another year.
