Suffers of Typhoon Damage Should Apply for Reduction and Exemption of Local Tax within 30 Days

Typhoon Dujuan may have causing damage to some Taichung residents. Local Tax Bureau of Taichung City Government reminds those who have been affected to apply for reduction and exemption of local taxes (namely house tax, land value tax, vehicle license plate tax and entertainment tax) within 30 days after occurrence of the incident.

For the house tax, a house damaged over 30% but less than 50% can get 50% reduction of its house tax, while house tax can be exempted for a house with a damage area of over 50% and reusable only after being repaired.

For the land value tax, those land lots deemed unusable due to landslide, subsidence, erosion, or sand ballast defined by Article 12 of Regulations Governing the Reduction or Exemption of Land Tax can be exempted of land value tax.

For the vehicle license plate tax, a car or a motorcycle of 151 cc and above which has been damaged by flooding and which can be reused only after being repaired or which is no longer reusable must be first reported for suspension or as scrapped to the Motor Vehicles Office. After getting a proof from the Motor Vehicles Office, the vehicle owner can then use the proof to apply for reduction of the vehicle license plate tax which is levied according to the number of days the vehicle is actually in use.

As for the entertainment tax, it will be reduced in proportion to the number of days the entertainment house being certified not in operation due to typhoon damage.

All the application for the above-mentioned local tax reduction and exemption must be filed to the Local Tax Bureau or its branch office within 30 days after occurrence of the incident, reminds the Local Tax Bureau.
