Local Tax Bureau said that license plate tax is imposed on the owner or user of a vehicle; if a vehicle is sold to others, do remember to register the sale transaction with the Motor Vehicles Office, so as not to affect your own rights and interests.

Local Tax Bureau reminds every vehicle owner to register his/her vehicle transfer with the Motor Vehicles Office in addition to signing a transaction contract with the buyer. Otherwise, if the buyer does not register the transfer, either, the original owner will be levied of license plate tax and punished of any non-compliance acts.

Local Tax Bureau explains further that if the buyer does not register the transaction for any reason, the original owner can use a legal attest letter or newspaper notice to urge the buyer to register the transfer. If the buyer still does not handle the transfer, the original owner can then cancel his/her license plate with the Motor Vehicles Office by presenting the legal attest letter or newspaper notice so as to avoid being imposed of license plate tax or other penalty fines.
