According to the Taichung City Local Tax Bureau (LTB), the levying of 2020 vehicle license tax will commence on April 1. MOTC has offered tour bus operators and small vehicle rental companies with 50% subsidy for their vehicle license taxes. The tax bill issued by the LTB in late March will indicate the subsidized amount and payable amount separately.
For example, the LTB stated that if the original vehicle license tax was NT$3,240, the car owner will only have to pay NT$1,620 after deducting MOTC's 50% subsidy of NT$1,620 (equivalent to half of NT$3,240). Additionally, if the car owner's car which is not in use for the time being due to the COVID-19 outbreak, they may apply for suspensio n from the Motor Vehicles Office in order to be exempt from the vehicle license tax. However, if the vehicle is being driven again, remember to apply for a revert drive from the Motor Vehicles Office before driving it on public roads to avoid paying evaded tax and receiving a fine.
