Old and Unused Vehicles Must Be Scrapped

(Taichung News) Mr. Lin's personal small vehicle is old and out of commission, so he contacted the Taichung City Local Tax Bureau (LTB) to enquire about tax-saving measures.
The LTB indicated that to report a vehicle for scrapping, the vehicle license tax will be levied up to one day before the date of scrapping. If the vehicle is handed over to a recycling plant for recycling, those that have been annotated as "environmental recycling" or "environmental car body recycling" by the Motor Vehicles Office will have their vehicle license tax levied up to one day before the annotated towing date stated on the recycling certificate.
According to the LTB, in the case of Mr. Lin, the car body of the unused vehicle can be towed away by an authorized recycling plant, but a towing and recycling certificate must be obtained to stop the levying of vehicle license tax. The car owner must approach the Motor Vehicles Office in person to apply for vehicle scrapping to complete the procedure. Citizens are reminded to heed the scrapping procedure to avoid the incomplete scrapping of your vehicle, resulting in the illegal use of scrapped car bodies or illegal driving on the road.
If you have any vehicle license tax-related questions, please dial the toll-free service number 0800-000321or (04) 22585000#1 for the telephone customer service center, and our staff will be glad to assist you.
