Remember to keep the receipts for 5 years after paying the tax bills.

According to the Local Tax Bureau of the Taichung City Government, in compliance with the Article 11 of the Tax Collection Act, “Documentary evidence which should be obtained from other persons and counterfoil or duplicate of documentary evidence which should be issued to other persons under the tax act shall be kept for a period of five (5) years.” Meanwhile, according to the Article 23 of the same act, “The period for collection of a specific tax shall be five (5) years.” Therefore, please remember to keep receipts for 5 years after paying tax bills.

The Local Tax Bureau explains that in order not to cause problems for either taxpayers or the tax collectors and to protect yourselves, it is advisable to keep receipts that have the stamps of the tax collectors. It is also advisable to keep tax payment receipts provided by the convenience stores when they help collect the tax money.
