Some taxpayers do not declare the demolition of their houses to Local Tax Bureau within the prescribed time until they receive house tax statement. As they failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove the date of house demolition, they are required to pay house tax up to the month prior to the application. Thus, they make a lot of complaint.

Local Tax Bureau stresses that house demolition should be reported to the Local Tax Bureau within 30 days. Only after Local Tax Bureau verifies the fact will the house owner stop paying house tax until the house is re-constructed. If a house owner submits his/her application late, house tax will be levied up to the month when the declaration is made, unless the taxpayer can provide supporting documents to prove the actual house removal date. For example, if a house owner attaches the removal completion certificate issued by Taichung City Government, cancellation of house tax will be retroacted to the month of actual removal. As the difference may be big enough, Local Tax Bureau reminds our citizens to safeguard their own interests.
