Local Tax Bureau of Taichung City Government said that most people thought that they would have completed the sale and purchase of a vehicle, if they had signed a transfer agreement and got paid. It is not the case in fact. Many vehicle sellers receive tickets for a huge penalty fine or tax makeup after they have sold vehicles for years. It is because the sale of a vehicle is a private contractual behavior between the original and new owners without the knowledge of the tax authorities. If the transaction is not reported to the concerned Motor Vehicles Office, the vehicle registration information will not be updated and the vehicle license tax, fuel tax, and even violation fines will continue to be levied on the original owner.
Local Tax Bureau urges everyone to register his or her vehicle ownership transferal at the Motor Vehicles Office. In case the new owner refuses to cooperate in the application, the original owner should immediately apply to cancel his or her vehicle ownership due to transferal refusal by the new owner by presenting to the Motor Vehicles Office such documents as his/her original identity card, transferal reminder notice by newspaper, or the evidence letter by the post office.
